How Coil Slitting Machine Works?
Uncoiling
In a de-coiler, or uncoiler, the uncoiling process starts with loading the metal coil or master coil onto the device, which can be a dual cone form or the expanding mandrel single end form. The dual cone de-coiler is better suited for heavier loads while the mandrel type is suitable for both light and heavy-duty applications. The raw material is loaded into the cones of the de-coiler through a pusher ramp and quick loading coil car. The loading car threads the single-end mandrel into the inner diameter of the master coil. The material is spined off the cone or mandrel, then be peeled to ensure the coil head can smoothly enter edge guides before going through the flattener or other kinds of the straightener. The flattening process is essential if flatness and free of defects on the surfaces are significant in further operations.
Slitting
In the cut-to-length stage, the material will be fed into the slitter which consists of 2 arbors that are parallel to each other, installed with rotary knives. The slitting knives will partially advance into the coil material and lead to a crack or fracture on both sides of the metal material. The mults will, in this stage, be separated from one to another. Depending on the thickness of the coil stock, rubber stripper rings are used to obtain a better edge, preventing any burr that may affect the quality of the product and the downstream operations. As the stock is accurately cut, the outside edges of the metals have edge trim, which will be treated by a scrap winder. On the other hand, if the workpiece to be cut is extremely thin, the operator can use a looping pit that takes up the varying thickness of the slitted coil when the edge area is thinner than the center part. Also, this looping pit can take up the extra volume before the coil is fed into the tensioning device. The tension device in the coil slitting line is usually the tension stand that is positioned prior to the re-coiler. It is required in the coil slitting line since the master coil has a larger diameter in the center of the width than at the edge areas. As a result, the stock from the center area of the master coil will be taken up faster as the other area is loosely hanged without the tensioning device.
Recoiling
In general, the recoilers used in coil slitting lines are the expanding mandrel form that can mostly expand ranging from a diameter of 20" to 24" or more with the expansion pads or leaves. The device recoils the slit-to-width coils when fitting with an overarm shaft with separating discs. The discs which are positioned directly in line with the slitting cutters can prevent any interleaving problems of the narrow coil stocks. Subsequently, the finished products will be bent on the outside diameter, forcing off from the mandrel to a coil car.
